Smallsite Design

Build a site, not just pages

Self-maintaining advantages

!

There are advantages to maintaining our own site.

Unlike a page on a social media platform, having our own site means being able to build our own paradigm, on our own terms. We are not at the whim of platform experimentation or cohabitants that want to take our readers away from us. We are free, within the law of the land, to build a site as what we want. We can indulge our ideas as we see fit, free from algorithms pushing us to conform to rules not of our making.

A distinct advantage of maintaining a site ourself is that the process of making changes is not dependent upon someone else's timing or priorities. To put that into perspective, using Smallsite Design to correct a typo on a page, shift an article to another category, or shift a category to another subsite, can take as little as one minute including login. That is less than the time taken to email the changes to be made to someone else, let alone the delay that they will take to actually make the changes.

Knowing web technologies is not required to maintain a Smallsite Design site. Instead, pages are built using their semantic structure, with their typography set for the optimal layout of those elements, while their look is defined by selecting theme attributes.

Note that Smallsite Design is a site creation tool, and not to be confused with website design services that will build a custom site for you. If you want a website, but are not comfortable with using technology or just do not want to deal with the intricacies of building a site at all, by all means get someone else to build it for you. However, you could get someone to use Smallsite Design to build your site and then take over maintaining and adding to it yourself, while still getting help when wanting to make major changes.
